Teeth Whitening Options

Teeth Whitening OptionsThanks to all of the modern options for teeth whitening, there is no reason to walk around with dingy, stained, yellowed teeth. However, the diversity of teeth whitening methods can be confusing. Therefore, it is important to learn about each one in order to make an informed decision.
First, there are over-the-counter products. These include teeth whitening strips, toothpastes, trays and gels. Teeth whitening strips are applied directly to the surface of the teeth and are left on for about 30 minutes. This process is repeated over a period of several days. The results will depend on the power of the peroxide in the strips. Toothpastes are only mildly effective, because they do not bleach the teeth. Instead, they contain gentle abrasives that remove stains and polish the teeth. Store-bought trays are not custom-fit. Therefore, they may irritate the gums.

The second category of teeth whitening options, which includes bleaching and trays, will mandate a trip to a general dentistry expert. Although these methods may be a bit more expensive, they are more effect and results are enduring. In-office bleaching produces immediate results. During a single session that lasts for about one hour, patients will have a gel applied to their teeth. It is activated by a special light. The other option is whitening kits that are provided by the cosmetic dentistry specialist. They are more effective than the trays from the store, since they are custom-made to fit each individual's teeth precisely. Also, the peroxide-bleaching agent is much stronger.
