Teeth Whitening
The enamel of your teeth can be very susceptible to staining. Foods, beverages, and even medications can leave a yellow or brown tint on teeth that many find unattractive or even aging. Genetics and certain health conditions may also lead to discolored teeth. If your teeth are not as bright as they once were, our teeth whitening system may be able to restore your smile.Several methods of tooth whitening are available today, including over-the-counter whitening products, in-office bleaching procedures, and laser whitening. While over-the-counter products are convenient, they may not be as effective as those our cosmetic dentist can offer. In-office bleaching procedures often include custom-made mouth trays and a special bleaching gel. The custom trays fit each patient’s mouth perfectly, which increases the level of contact between the bleach solution and teeth and reduces the risk of irritation to the gums. Our dentist will provide you with specific instructions regarding how long and how frequently you should wear your trays for the best results. Your results may last as long as two to three years with good oral hygiene habits and regular touch ups.
Laser teeth whitening is another option that can provide faster, more intense results. During our in-office procedure, the whitening gel is painted directly on teeth, and a laser light is used to penetrate and break up stains deep within the enamel of the teeth and enhance the power of the bleaching gel. Coffee, tea, and even nicotine stains are lifted away in just a single treatment that lasts between 30 minutes and one hour.
Whitening treatments can dramatically whiten your teeth and leave them several shades whiter than they were before treatment. Disadvantages are few and often temporary. You may experience heightened sensitivity to heat or cold for a few days after treatment, and your gums may be slightly irritated if they come into contact with the bleaching solution. Not all teeth will have the same results. Yellow or brown stained teeth often have the best results through bleaching, while gray colored teeth and teeth that are stained due to medications may not whiten as well through traditional bleaching methods.
